In testing, teams invest significant effort in dealing with flaky tests—tests that behave inconsistently even when the code and test logic remain unchanged. In practice, however, much of the variability in testing outcomes comes from changing environments and demands: wanting tests to be done quickly or thoroughly, working with a new tool or improving testing reliability with the present tool, working with more empowerment as opposed to doing only what is told and making short term and long term plans that work well with other non-testing teams too. These conditions require testers to continuously adjust how they interpret results, assess risk, and define “good enough” quality.
This session focuses on how tester should adapt to these changing testing conditions. Using scenario-based exercises, participants will examine the decisions testers make when context shifts. The session is experiential and reflective, not instructional, and helps participants recognize how clearer judgment, better review conversations, and deliberate challenge can reduce variability in testing outcomes.
Chinmaya’s work is shaped by a deep appreciation for the people, teams, and organisations that have allowed him to learn through real practice rather than theory alone. With a background spanning engineering, management, and learning design, he works at the intersection of testing, decision-making, and human judgment in evolving work environments.
His approach has been informed by hands-on experience across organisations, along with sustained engagement in practitioner-led learning. Rather than teaching prescribed methods, he designs experiential sessions that create space for reflection, peer learning, and shared sensemaking—grounded in the belief that meaningful capability develops when people are trusted to think, question, and decide together.
As organizations increasingly adopt microservices and distributed architectures, testers are faced with new challenges that traditional testing strategies struggle to address. Unlike monolithic applications, microservices introduce complexities such as inter-service dependencies, asynchronous communication, data consistency, and resilience, which require specialized testing approaches. This session will provide participants with a comprehensive framework for effectively testing distributed systems, from understanding their unique challenges to applying advanced testing techniques and tools.
Through this session, attendees will gain insights into the types of testing essential for microservices, including contract testing to ensure service compatibility, integration testing to verify inter-service workflows, and chaos engineering to build resilient, failure-tolerant systems. Additionally, we’ll cover best practices for creating production-like environments using containers and orchestrators, managing dependencies with service virtualization, and enhancing system observability to identify and troubleshoot issues in real time.
