In this talk, we will introduce Test-Driven Development (TDD) as a method to guide the development of a software system. While there are numerous tutorials that use coding Katas to explain TDD concepts, applying TDD to a real web application provides a more practical and comprehensive understanding of its benefits and outcomes.
We will start with an overview of the application, examining its existing codebase to gain a clear understanding of its current state. Following this, we will introduce essential TDD concepts such as the Red-Green-Refactor cycle and the Transformation Priority Premise (TPP) to establish a strong foundation for applying TDD principles.
We will also analyse how tests are currently written in the code and evaluate the structure and quality of the existing code. Building on this knowledge, we will demonstrate how to add a new feature to the application using TDD. By test-driving the development of this feature, attendees will gain practical insights into the TDD process, highlighting the importance of writing tests before code to ensure robust and maintainable software.
As polyglot software engineer, I’ve traveled through different technologies, including but not limited to web, mobile, devops, data and so on. I solve most programming problems using Python, but I’m open to almost any language. I love technology and programming and spend much of my free time doing that. I have 7+ years of experience building professional software.
Most of my experience till today has been building software and systems that follow good practices in terms of architecture, design, code, and tests. Apart from that, I have experience in programming amateur video games and playing around in my Arch Linux installation as a hobby.
