Rob Sabourin has spent over four decades pioneering automated test design across a wide range of technology stacks. Lately, he’s been exploring the power, promise—and occasional perversity—of applying Generative AI to the test design problem space.
In this lively and engaging talk, Rob shares key lessons from his hands-on experience using Generative AI to tackle real-world test design challenges. From successes and failures to unexpected outcomes, Rob offers an honest look at what works, what doesn’t, and why.
His central takeaway? Generative AI can be a valuable tool in the hands of a skilledtester—but it’s no substitute for critical thinking, deep domain understanding, and solid test design fundamentals.
Attendees will learn how Rob has successfully leveraged aspects of Generative AI in test design, while also steering clear of common pitfalls and limitations of large language models.

Generative AI is reshaping the software testing landscape by bringing intelligence, speed, and adaptability across every phase of the testing lifecycle. In this session, we’ll explore how Gen AI can augment and accelerate testing—from analyzing requirements and generating test cases to developing automation scripts, executing smart test runs, and maintaining test suites. We’ll also spotlight cutting-edge AI-powered testing tools transforming the QA ecosystem. Whether you’re a tester, developer, or QA leader, this talk will equip you with insights into how to harness Gen AI to boost productivity, coverage, and quality in your testing processes.

As QA professionals, you already rely on clear acceptance criteria and automated checks to ship reliable software. In this talk, we’ll apply those same principles to AI by covering:
Acceptance Criteria for Evaluations: what they mean, why they matter, and practical approaches to define thresholds (accuracy, consistency, hallucination limits)
Automating your Eval Suite: how to turn those criteria into automated tests, and why the investment pays off in reduced risk
Hands-on Evalite + TypeScript integration: step-by-step example of plugging an eval framework directly into your CI/CD
Real-world tests at Robin: the exact evals we run on our models. I’ll show some sample data, pass/fail logic, and monitoring tools that we use to keep our AI solid and reliable.
By the end, you’ll have a lean, QA-friendly roadmap to bolt AI evals onto your existing workflow.
Nick has been developing software since the internet first began. He is a Neo Financial alumni, and spent some time working in analytics for the Minnesota Twins. He is currently working as the CTO at Robin where he keeps the code feather-light and handles major migrations.
