From AI Agents to Agentic Systems: What It Really Takes to Build and Govern Them Well

Everyone is talking about agents, but most teams are still unclear on what it actually takes to build one well, let alone manage multiple agents working together. A single agent is one thing. A multi-agent system is a different level of complexity, with more handoffs, more moving parts, and more ways for things to quietly break.

In this session, I’ll break down what separates a simple agent from a real agentic system, where multi-agent workflows start to get messy, and why governance has to be built in from the start. We’ll look at how these systems should be structured, where human oversight still matters, and what teams need to think about if they want AI to be useful, reliable, and worth trusting.

Key Takeaways:
  • The difference between a single agent and a multi-agent system
  • Where agentic workflows get complicated and start to break
  • What good governance looks like when you are building with AI agents

Session #1

Kajal Jain

AI Strategy & Governance Advisor Purdue University Northwest

Kajal has spent the past 15 years working across technology, product strategy, go-to-market, and digital transformation. Long before generative AI became a boardroom priority, she’s been helping companies bring new technology to market, improve how teams work, and turn complex capabilities into products people could actually use.

Today, through AI Alchemy, Kajal helps leaders move AI from experimentation into responsible operation. Her work brings together AI strategy, AI governance, workflow design, and executive education, helping organizations decide where AI belongs, what should remain human, and what needs to be in place before they build.

Kajal is also an educator, teaching executives and practitioners through Purdue University Northwest Leadership Institute, Maven, and the Chicago Interactive Marketing Association. She is the creator of The Elixir, AI Alchemy’s guided experience for taking an AI opportunity from early thinking to a governed, implementation-ready plan and is currently building CHIRP

If your organization has a real AI opportunity but needs clarity on what to do next, that’s where I come in.

Quality Assurance or Quality Engineering? Why Not Both?

In the software industry, different companies adopt different approaches to develop and maintain systems with high-quality standards. But how can this quality be ensured? Should we test exhaustively, or incorporate processes that guarantee quality from the beginning of the development cycle?

Are testers the guardians of quality, or should developers be the first advocates of quality? Let’s explore these concepts based on real-world examples.

Key Takeaways:
  • Definitions of Quality Assurance and Quality Engineering
  • Identifying the needs of Quality Assurance and Quality Engineering
  • Transitioning from Quality Assurance to Quality Engineering

Session #2

He has also led a dedicated test automation team. Today, he is QA Team Lead at Hugo Boss Digital Campus, where he built a team from scratch and leads the implementation of quality strategies in agile methodologies within the e-commerce product department.
