Quality in the Loop: Measuring and Enforcing Build Quality in Agentic Development

Outline

What we’ll cover in this session.

When AI agents are writing and changing code, quality can’t be an afterthought, it has to be built into the loop. In this session, Joel explores how engineering and QA leaders can measure build quality through bug escape rate, use AI to generate test cases that are richer and more purposeful, and why those tests must sit at the centre of agent workflows, not on the side. In an agentic world, your test cases aren’t just validation, they are the guardrails that define what an agent can safely change, ship, and own.

We’ll walk through
01

Where agentic workflows actually earn their keep in a real QA pipeline — and the two places they quietly fail.

02

The four control surfaces to set up before an agent touches production: scope, evaluation, failure cataloguing, human-in-the-loop.

03

Patterns for flaky-test triage, regression pruning, and visual-diff arbitration with receipts from three production systems.

04

A reference architecture you can take back to Monday’s sprint planning, plus the metrics that prove it’s working.

Joel Fernandes leads the engineering teams behind product discovery, purchase decision-making, and mobile platform experiences at Meesho. His work directly shapes how millions of users across the country find, evaluate, and buy products every day.

At Meesho, Joel oversees discovery systems that surface the right products to the right users through intelligent filters, personalised widgets, and AI-assisted shopping experiences. His teams also build the reviews and ratings infrastructure that helps users make confident purchase decisions. In parallel, Joel drives the evolution of Meesho’s mobile platform, with a sharp focus on performance and reliability for users on low-end devices, a critical challenge and differentiator for consumer technology at India’s scale.

With 12 years of experience spanning mobile and backend engineering, Joel brings a rare blend of platform depth and product thinking to high-scale consumer systems. Before Meesho, he spent five years building and scaling the mobile engineering function at Aware, a guided mindfulness app incubated at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, where he led end-to-end mobile development from the ground up.

Joel holds a Post-Graduate Master’s degree in Computer Applications from Visvesvaraya Technological University.

Outside of engineering, he’s an avid explorer of financial markets, an enthusiast of AI and agent-based systems, and values spending time with his family.
