Session 1
API testing 101

With a large majority of companies shifting to developing SaaS applications, there has been a significant increase in the number of APIs over the years. According to ProgrammableWeb, there are 24000+ public APIs listed in their directory. APIs mainly serve as the crux for companies that primarily focus on B2B transactions.

As a result of this, it is highly important to manage APIs and continuously test them in various ways to ensure the desired expected data flow. As per the state of testing report 2022, 65% weightage has been given to API testing as a very important testing skill. APIs being the most fundamental means of communication between software components, it is essential to validate and verify that they render correct data in the right format which can be used properly by other services.

Key Takeaways:

  • Fundamentals of APIs: Basic understanding of API and related analogies for better understanding.
  • High-level understanding of error codes and handling.
  • Steps to follow for performing API testing in an effective way.
  • Importance of sequencing/chaining API calls.
  • Potential Test cases for API.
  • Getting started with Postman.
