There are dozens of options for test automation. Among several E2E Test automation frameworks, which one should we choose? Let’s discuss how we can make this decision. Both developers and QA people use test frameworks to ensure the functionality of their products. It is important to choose the correct tool, so this is a common problem targeting most of the audience.
When I joined a new project, I realized that the E2E tests including UI automation were being implemented with a test automation framework. I noticed decent strengths, but some drawbacks in the meantime. I was not sure about speed and performance either. After talking to a couple of people, I figured out that they did not have a solid grounding for the choice of that framework, but just a legacy. Learning that in my personal case, half of the traffic was coming from Safari browser, I started looking for alternatives because the framework we were using did not support webkit and Safari browser execution.
I have done a benchmarking study and collected information about the locomotive E2E test automation frameworks. After choosing the best 5, I implemented the same test scenario with each of them. Then I have listed their strengths and weaknesses.
What to expect from the talk: The audience can expect to see the reasoning behind the choice of the test automation framework we use. Apart from the common tendency in the community, we will discuss analyzing our own requirements and relating them to our decision.
With such a setup, QAs/SDETs will help their engineering teams:
