Session 2 on “Testing different machine learning models” by Pratima Joshi

The lifecycle of a machine learning algorithms and models differs from the traditional software development lifecycle in one fundamental way.”learning” from training data as opposed to a fixed set of input and fixed expected output. We will discuss how ML Testing differs from traditional testing, including testing challenges with input/training data, measuring effectiveness and efficiency of algorithms and cross validation. We will use Microsoft Azure ML Studio to learn and understand concepts.

The detailed agenda is as follows:

  • Machine Learning Problem Identification
  • Dataset Preparation
  • Choice of algorithm(s)
  • Division of data into Test and Train Datasets
  • Tuning, training and testing the model
  • Importance of test harness
  • Evaluation of Performance measures and their significance
  • Cross Validation
